Murugo Cultural Centre – Discover Rwanda’s Heritage in the Heart of Kigali

Quench your cultural curiosity at the Murugo Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Rwanda’s traditions and beliefs. It is located in the heart of Kigali and offers more than just history. The centre also provides warm hospitality and has four guest rooms, each big enough for two people.

Before you visit, make sure to read the rules on their website to avoid any problems. Children under two years old are not allowed because they are considered too playful and might damage some of the items at the centre. It’s important to plan for your child before coming. Also, smoking is not allowed on the premises because it may make others uncomfortable.

If you follow the guidelines, you will enjoy your visit. There is a lot to see and do, such as traditional drumming that plays old melodies. These drum beats used to mark special events like weddings, harvests, or hunts. The drumming is followed by cultural dances, where performers wear traditional clothes and move their arms in the air. These dances are so lively that many visitors join in and enjoy a special moment.

The centre also gives you a chance to see old tools used by our ancestors. You will find hunting sticks, animal hides, arrows, bows, and spears, among others. There are also beautiful art pieces on the walls. The paintings and sculptures often show scenes from daily life long ago, such as women cooking or winnowing. Some sculptures even show hunting tools, sparking your curiosity to explore more.

Tourists are welcome throughout the year. The centre only closes on special public days, like the national day of remembrance for the genocide or Independence Day.
