Detailed 10-Day Rwanda Gorilla & Kilimanjaro Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, your safari guide will pick you up. You will start your 10-day safari with a short tour of Kigali city, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and other places to see.
Have lunch at a restaurant in Kigali, then drive to Volcanoes National Park. You will arrive in the early evening. Get settled and rest well for the gorilla trek tomorrow.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Have a light breakfast early in the morning. Your driver will take you to the park head offices for a briefing about the rules of gorilla trekking. Then you will drive to the trailhead. An expert park ranger will lead you into the forest to find the gentle mountain gorillas.
You will spend one hour with the gorillas once you find them. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. Later, take a cultural visit to the Gorilla Guardians Village. Then return to the lodge for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Kigali and flight to Arusha, Tanzania
After an early breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali to catch your flight to Arusha, Tanzania. When you arrive at Arusha Airport, your Tanzania driver guide will be there to welcome you. He will take you to Moshi town at the base of Kilimanjaro, where you will rest for the night.
Day 4-9: Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro
You will spend the next six days climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, which stands 5,895 meters tall at Uhuru Peak. We suggest the Machame or Marangu route, but you can choose other routes depending on your fitness and preference.
As you climb, you will pass through different types of mountain vegetation. You will notice changes with every step upward. On the mountain, you will stay in tents set up by your support crew of cooks and porters. On the Marangu route, you sleep in huts with bunk beds instead of tents.
Climbing Kilimanjaro is hard but very rewarding when you reach Uhuru Peak. Enjoy the views from the snowy top. The feeling of success is worth the cold nights and all the effort it took.
On day 9, your tour driver will meet you at Mweka Gate. You will finish some paperwork and then drive to your hotel in Moshi for the night. Enjoy a long warm shower and celebrate your climb to the top of Kilimanjaro.
Day 10: Transfer to Arusha – Flight back home
After breakfast, you will be driven to Arusha Airport for your flight home.
