Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali airport pick-up
Pick up from Kigali International Airport and transfer to a hotel in Kigali city for the overnight stay.
Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Go on a half-day tour of Kigali city, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in the early evening. Check in at the lodge, have dinner, and overnight in Volcanoes National Park.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing and final preparations for the trek. You will be led by a park ranger to search for the mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours or more, but it is worth it when you meet the gorilla family allocated to your group. Return to the lodge for lunch, and later visit Gorilla Guardians Village for a cultural experience.
Day 4: Flight to Tanzania
Transfer back to Kigali in the morning and be dropped at the airport to catch your flight to Tanzania. The Tanzania safari guide will pick you up from Arusha Airport and take you to your hotel in Arusha town, the starting point for most Tanzania safaris. If you arrive early, you can take a short walk or do some gift and souvenir shopping.
Day 5-6: Exploring Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park is the most popular safari park in Tanzania and is known as the vast home to the annual wildlife migration. Spend two days exploring the wide Savannah plains, driving to different sections of the park.
If you visit during the migration season, you may witness the great migration. You can also enjoy activities such as a hot air balloon safari and guided walking safaris.
Day 7: Cross the border to Kenya – Maasai Mara
Leave the Serengeti plains and cross the border into Maasai Mara National Reserve, a top safari destination in southern Kenya. Check in at your safari lodge and have the rest of the day to relax.
Day 8-9: Exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve
You have another chance to witness the wildebeest migration in Maasai Mara if you missed it in the Serengeti. Spend these two days exploring the reserve, driving to different areas for a rewarding game viewing experience.
You will encounter the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino) among many other animals and birds.
Day 10: Transfer to Nairobi – End of safari
Your 10-day safari ends with a transfer to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your homebound flight.
