Drive at your own pace while in Rwanda for a lifetime adventure, whether in the national parks or the city. But before you dive into the excitement, you must plan your journey in advance with all the requirements that allow you into the country, so that you are not deported or charged extra fees. Above all, know what to pack. Below are some of the things you are recommended to pack:
Clothing
Clothes are basic needs that no one can live without. When preparing for your safari, the clothes you pack should match the season you plan to visit. During the dry season, when there is strong sunshine, pack lightweight and breathable fabrics for daytime and warmer layers for evenings.
During the rainy season, when showers are common and sunshine is limited, pack clothes that can keep you warm and dry. For trekking, it is advised to wear long-sleeved T-shirts and pants to protect your skin from insects and sunburn.
Avoid bright colors as they attract insects. Instead, wear colors like khaki and olive, which blend well with the environment. While in the jungle, rain may come without warning, so make sure to pack waterproof hiking boots, thick socks, lightweight gloves, and a rain jacket.
Waterproof Bag
A waterproof bag helps protect essentials like snacks, water bottles, and binoculars, which will help you spot distant animals. A camera should not miss in your bag, but always respect everyone’s privacy.
Use your camera to capture the beautiful forests, animals, and landscapes. Remember to pack extra batteries and memory cards so that you do not miss capturing any moments.
Personal Items and Toiletries
Since Rwanda has different weather conditions from your home, pack a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from drying. To protect yourself from the strong African sun, carry a hat and insect repellent to keep insects away.
Do not forget your favorite biodegradable soap and shampoo, as these help minimize harm to the environment. You may also face health problems along the way, so a first aid kit should be packed with all necessary equipment.
Make sure you know how to use each tool before traveling, or move with a medical doctor. Before you travel, visit your doctor to check if you are fit enough for the journey.
If needed, related prescriptions will be given. Also, always travel with enough money and learn how to tip properly so that you do not finish your cash too early.
Double-check the size and weight restrictions for domestic flights before traveling and label your luggage.
