After a lunch break, start your journey towards Volcanoes National Park, enjoying the views of the countryside and the hills. Overnight at your lodge in Volcanoes.
Day 2: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking
Today you meet the endangered mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park during gorilla trekking. You will be grouped into 8 people and assigned to a particular gorilla family to trek. The day starts with a briefing at the park head offices and then you are led into the forest by a park ranger.
Stay alert and enjoy the experience which can take about 2 to 7 hours or more. Return to the lodge for a meal and depending on the time you return from the activity, you can choose to go for another activity like a nature walk, bird watching, or a visit to the twin lakes.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
This morning after breakfast, you will get a chance to learn more about the traditions and culture of Rwanda with a visit to the Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’iwacu Village).
After the experience, it is time to drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home of Rwanda’s primates. Arriving in the afternoon, check in, have your lunch, and then go for the canopy walk on top of Nyungwe Forest’s trees and inhabitants. It is the best and one of its kind in East Africa. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Nyungwe Forest National Park – Chimpanzee Trekking
Today you meet the playful chimpanzees of Nyungwe Forest during the chimpanzee trekking experience. Just like gorilla trekking, you start the day with a briefing session. Then into the forest you go to track down the chimpanzees.
There is a lot to see in Nyungwe Forest with 12 different primate species, birds, and different plant and tree species. Return from the forest and drive back to your lodge for lunch. The rest of the day is free for you to choose what you would like to do, such as a guided nature walk, birdwatching, or a community visit. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 5: Departure – Kigali
Today marks the end of your 5-day Rwanda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari. You will be driven back to Kigali by your tour guide for a drop-off at the airport.
