Rwanda has many cities such as Kigali (the capital city), Kibuye, Butare, Gisenyi, Muhanga, Nyanza, Rubavu, Kinigi, Byumba, Gitarama, Ruhengeri, Rwamagana, and many others.
The most visited city is Kigali, with a population of about one million people scattered across districts like Gasabo, Kicukiro, and Nyarugenge. Kigali is a commercial center with a moderate climate, attracting many people from all over the world who come to enjoy its beauty, especially at night.
The sparkling city was established in 1907 and is ranked as Africa’s cleanest and safest city.
Some of the tourist destinations you should visit include:
- Genocide historical sites, where a large number of people were killed. If you are not strong at heart, you are advised to visit other destinations. These sites include the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, where you learn about the history of the Hutu and Tutsi tribes, and Nyamata Genocide Church, a heart-piercing place where history records the loss of over 5,000 people. Up to today, locals visit these places to mourn their loved ones.
- Kimironko Central Market, which offers a great chance for visitors to shop for fresh fruits and interact with the vendors. The colorful fabrics around the market will make you want to pause and take a photograph to remember your trip.
- Presidential Palace Museum, which was opened after the death of H.E. Habyarimana, the former president of Rwanda, who was assassinated in a plane crash in his compound. His death triggered the 1994 genocide, leading to the deaths of many people.
- Nyamirambo Walking Tour, which simply involves walking through the town streets while interacting with the locals. Feel free to buy any product that interests you.
- Kigali Convention Center, located 7 km east of Nyabugogo. It is a major highlight of the city, built by a Rwandan company between 2009 and 2016. Visiting it is a dream come true for many visitors.
The fee for your trip will cover hotel pickup and transfer, lunch, bottled mineral water, entrance fees, knowledgeable tour guides, and professional photography.
Check your documents carefully before coming to Rwanda because you could be deported if anything is missing. Make sure to check if you are from a country that can acquire a visa upon arrival for free. If not, make sure to process it before boarding.
Keep your belongings safe, as cities are full of thieves, and do not drink and drive because you will be arrested.
