Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park
Start your 7-day Rwanda safari with a transfer to Akagera National Park after a short tour of Kigali city. You will be in the park in the afternoon, check in, and head out for an early evening game drive after some relaxation. Look out for the different wildlife that live in this savannah park. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Game drive and boat trip in Akagera National Park
Go for game drives around Akagera National Park in search of wildlife including elephants, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, rhinos, leopards, and many birds. Return to the lodge for lunch and later go on an afternoon boat trip on Lake Ihema.
Enjoy the boat ride while spotting different water birds, hippos, crocodiles, and animals at the shores of the lake. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Have an early breakfast and enjoy a game drive as you exit the park. Begin your long road trip to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Kigali city, with some stopovers to visit interesting places and to have lunch. Overnight in Nyungwe.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest
Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park allows you to explore part of the evergreen montane forest as you search for the habituated playful chimpanzees.
You may also come across other primates that live within the forest. After some rest from the trekking experience, you will go for a canopy walk. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu and later to Volcanoes National Park
Depart early in the morning to Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest lake. Explore the lake on a boat ride to one of the islands while enjoying the views and sights of the water birds. You can also go kayaking on the lake.
After lunch, take about an hour’s drive to Volcanoes National Park. Overnight at the lodge in Volcanoes.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking – Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is carried out early in the morning when the gorillas are more active grooming themselves, looking for food, and the juveniles are playing around.
After about 4 to 6 or more hours of trekking in the Volcanoes, you will find a gorilla family and spend an hour with them before returning back to the park offices.
Later in the day, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village, formerly called Iby’iwacu Village. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali – Departure
You will be transferred back to Kigali by your tour guide driver, who will take you to the airport to catch your flight to another destination or back home.
