Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park
After breakfast at your hotel, go on a half-day Kigali city tour where you will visit places like the Inema Art Center, Kigali Genocide Memorial, National Museum, among others. After the city tour, have lunch and then drive to Akagera National Park where you will enjoy a late afternoon game drive to explore the only savannah park in Rwanda. Overnight at your safari camp or lodge.
Day 2: Akagera National Park – Game drive and boat trip
Explore Akagera National Park today with game drives and a boat safari on Lake Ihema. You will see animals like elephants, lions, zebras, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, mongooses, hyenas, leopards, rhinos, hippos, waterbucks, and crocodiles.
You will also see different bird species like African fish eagles, goliath herons, red-faced barbets, hamerkops, sacred ibis, storks, flycatchers, widow birds, and grey-crowned cranes, among others. Overnight at your safari camp or lodge.
Day 3: Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park
Have a morning game drive to end your time in Akagera National Park, or you can choose a hot air balloon safari over the savannah plains. Then drive to Volcanoes National Park with a few stopovers for lunch and to stretch your legs. On arrival at Volcanoes National Park, check into your lodge and settle in for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trekking
Today you will trek the forests of Volcanoes National Park in search of the mountain gorillas. Wake up early and head to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking. After, follow your assigned park ranger guide on the trek to find the mountain gorillas. You will spend one hour with the gorillas once you find the family, watching them groom themselves and play. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali – Departure
Leave Volcanoes National Park and drive back to Kigali for a drop-off at the airport. End of safari.
