Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali city – Volcanoes National Park
On arrival in Rwanda, you will be picked up from the airport in Kigali by your driver guide. Depending on your time of arrival, you will go on a short city tour before driving to Volcanoes National Park after lunch, enjoying the countryside and the hills.
Have a relaxing evening at your lodge in Volcanoes, preparing for tomorrow’s gorilla trek. The safari can also start with a pick-up from a hotel in Kigali. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trekking and Village visit
You will be up early and drive to the park offices in Kinigi for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will join a group of 8 visitors to trek the gorilla family assigned to your group.
These gentle giants keep moving and nesting at different locations at night, so the trek can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours before you find the mountain gorillas.
Spend an hour in their presence, then return to the park offices and drive back to your lodge for lunch and some rest.
Later on, go for a cultural visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, now known as the Gorilla Guardians Village, to learn more about Rwanda’s culture and traditions. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Departure
Golden monkeys are an endangered species found only in the Virunga Massif. They are an interesting species to trek.
Same as yesterday, you will first have a briefing, then enter the bamboo forest to trek the golden monkeys and spend an hour with them.
This experience is different from trekking gorillas, as the golden monkeys are more active.
Return to your lodge for lunch, check out, and drive back to Kigali for a drop-off at the airport for your flight home.
