Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Nyungwe Forest National Park
You will be picked up from your hotel by your driver guide who will drive you to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southwest of Rwanda. It is about a 5 to 6-hour road trip with some stopovers at places of interest like the Nyanza Palace, Ethnographic Museum, and other interesting spots in the countryside.
You will reach Nyungwe in the afternoon, check in at your lodge, and have lunch. After some relaxation, you may choose to take a guided nature walk or sit back and relax at your lodge, enjoying your surroundings. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Nyungwe Forest National Park – Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk
Very early in the morning after a light breakfast, you will drive to the park head office for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, you will head into the montane forest led by a park ranger and guides to look for the playful chimpanzees. While on the trek, also look out for other primate species and several bird species that live in the forest.
Spend one hour with the chimpanzees, then return from the forest to your lodge for lunch. Later, go for the famous canopy walk on top of the forest for a different experience. Return to your lodge for the night.
Day 3: Departure to Kigali
This marks the end of your Nyungwe chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk safari. You will be driven back to Kigali for a drop-off at the airport or your hotel in Kigali.
