Walking under the stars at night is a special experience you should not miss in Rwanda. This night walk takes place in Nyungwe National Park and is led by armed tour guides to keep you and the animals safe. Since it is a new activity in the park, it brings a lot of excitement. The walk starts at 5:30 PM and lasts between one to three hours.
During the walk, you will see that the forest is always full of life. You may spot flying creatures in the dark corners of the jungle where some night hunters hide. After the walk, you can rest at one of the many good places to stay in the park, like One&Only Nyungwe House.
At night, you may see animals that only come out after dark. These include bush babies, tree hyrax, and flying squirrels. It is a rare and exciting chance to see how animals behave at night. During the day, you can enjoy other activities in the park like chimpanzee trekking. This popular activity helps you learn about how chimps live and behave.
Another great activity is the canopy walk, which gives you a chance to see the forest from above. You can also take the Isumo waterfall hike, which needs good hiking shoes, snacks, and water. The hike is peaceful and gives you a closer look at nature.
Nyungwe is also known for colobus monkey tracking, which starts early in the morning. This gives you a chance to see the monkeys waking up and moving through the forest. You might also see colorful birds like the Ruwenzori apalis, Ruwenzori turaco, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, purple-breasted sunbird, blue-headed sunbird, dusky crimsonwing, Grauer’s rush warbler, Ruwenzori batis, francolinus nobilis, and the Ruwenzori nightjar.
Cycling is also available in the park. You can ride through the hills with a guide who will help you follow the right path and stay safe. Along the way, you might see monkeys, chimps, and enjoy the natural beauty of the forest.
