In the heart of Rwanda, there are many national parks with hills, green vegetation, and many water sources that are home to aquatic animals. On the open grasslands, you will find herbivores, carnivores, and birds, while in the forests, primates enjoy the trees.
Some of the national parks include Volcanoes National Park, Akagera National Park, Nyungwe National Park, and Gishwati-Mukura National Park, to mention a few.
High above the old volcanoes, you will feel the cold before you sweat as the wind gathers from all around. These volcanoes are part of the chain of dormant volcanoes making up the Virunga Massif, with Karisimbi being the highest at about 4,507 meters. Bisoke has a crater lake, and Sabinyo, Gahinga, and Muhabura follow along the trail.
Volcanoes National Park is located in the northwest of Rwanda. It is home to endangered mountain gorillas, birds, and other wild animals that live in the bamboo forest, green vegetation, open grasslands, heath, and swamps.
Plan your safari and join gorilla trekking, which is a challenging adventure that starts early in the morning and is led by an experienced park guide. You can also see golden monkeys and colorful birds of different species.
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park hides many secrets that only a determined traveler can discover. Take a trip to Buhanga Eco Park, an ancient forest that holds Rwanda’s historical stories, and visit the Musanze Caves, which were formed 62 million years ago.
Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is a low-lying area with woodlands, savannah, and wetlands, perfect for game viewing, nature walks, game drives, or even stargazing. In the past, Akagera suffered from poaching, which reduced the number of animals.
Later, environmentalists and the government worked hard to restore the park, bringing in animals like lions from other countries. They also reintroduced 18 black rhinos, which adapted well. Today, you can see many animals, especially during a boat trip on Lake Ihema, making your safari experience unforgettable.
Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe National Park is another beautiful place in Rwanda, home to zebras, antelopes, leopards, birds, and primates, which attract visitors from all over the world.
Gushwati-Mukura National Park
Gishwati-Mukura National Park is also a great place to visit. It has two separate forests: the larger Gishwati and the smaller Mukura. These forests are home to chimpanzees, golden monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, and many birds, making the area special.
Rwanda is a great place for responsible tourism.
