Visit Rwanda, a world of possibilities where you will breathe a fresh start as you encounter different beautiful sceneries during your hiking tours in different tourist destinations. The journey starts in Kigali, where you are picked up by the tour operator and driven straight to Volcanoes National Park.
Day one is usually hard for most visitors, but with the peaceful rest they get at the reserved accommodations, their joy quickly comes back to life. The lodges are well located and offer all the basic needs one may desire, ranging from simple, moderate to luxury options.
These include Amikusi Hotel Musanze, Foothill Farm House, Sambora Kinigi Lodge, Eagle View Lodge, My Hill Eco Lodge, Uragano Virunga Palace, Kataza House, Ruzizi Tented Camp, Karenge Bush Camp, Gorillas Nest Lodge, and many others.
The Dian Fossey grave hiking tour is another highlight that many tourists attend. It takes about one to three hours to complete, but you will finish the trek with a strong desire to visit again. During the hike, you will learn about many historical events, including how the caves were used as shelters for genocide victims.
You will also learn about Dian Fossey, a great woman known for her study and protection of mountain gorillas, which she started in the Democratic Republic of Congo before her death in Rwanda. Her efforts are still appreciated today. Walking in the footsteps of such a great figure is a dream you should not miss.
Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke are other hiking spots you can explore if you want to see unique African plant species. These mountains are part of the Virunga ranges and display different natural zones, starting at about 1,300 meters and continuing to the summit at 4,507 meters.
The zones include supratropical mountain forest, orotropical bamboo forest, orotropical cloud forest, orotropical ericaceous forest, and altotropical grassland. At 3,711 meters, Mount Bisoke is slightly shorter than Mount Karisimbi but offers good views.
After a long trek in Volcanoes National Park, you can also hike in Nyungwe National Park in southwestern Rwanda. Here, visitors can walk for one to seven hours depending on their strength.
The more you persist, the more you get a chance to encounter the paradise filled with colorful birds, green vegetation, and waterfalls along the Imbaraga Trail.
If you can still go further, you are challenged to continue to the Congo Nile Divide Trail or even reach the Nile and Congo river sources, which are covered in several days.
Pack all the necessities you may need during the hike to avoid slowing down others.
