3-Day Akagera Safari | Game Drives & Boat Ride in Rwanda

This 3-day Akagera National Park safari begins with pick-up from Kigali, including an optional city tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial and museums.

Arrive at Akagera, have lunch, then enjoy a boat trip on Lake Ihema to see crocodiles, hippos, birds, and animals like waterbucks and elephants.

On day two, spend the day on game drives looking for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and many birds. You can also visit nearby villages.

Detailed 3-Day Akagera National Park Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park – Boat Safari

You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali and driven to Akagera National Park. If time allows, take a short city tour of Kigali, visiting places like the Kigali Genocide Memorial, museums, and art and craft centers.

Arrive at Akagera National Park in the afternoon. Check into your safari lodge and have lunch.

After lunch, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Ihema, Rwanda’s second-largest lake. Look for crocodiles and hippos in the water, many water birds, and animals like waterbucks and elephants feeding or cooling off at the shore.

Return to your lodge for overnight.

Day 2: Game drives in Akagera National Park

Spend the day on a full game drive around the park. Visit different areas to look for lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, antelopes, leopards, hyenas, rhinos, oribis, and many bird species.

After lunch, you can continue exploring the park or take a guided visit to nearby villages. Overnight at your safari lodge.

Day 3: Departure to Kigali

You can choose to do an early morning hot air balloon safari. After breakfast, leave the park and drive back to Kigali. Your guide will drop you off at the airport for your flight home.
