3-Day Rwanda Tour with Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking

This 3-day Rwanda tour includes gorilla trekking and golden monkey encounters in Volcanoes National Park. On day one, your driver picks you up in Kigali, and you may take a short city tour before traveling to Volcanoes National Park.

On day two, after a briefing, join a group to trek mountain gorillas, spending one hour with them. Later, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village to learn about Rwanda’s culture.

On day three of this Rwanda tour, after a briefing, trek the golden monkeys in the bamboo forest and spend one hour with them. Return to Kigali for your flight home.

Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival in Rwanda, your driver guide will pick you up from the airport in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short city tour before driving to Volcanoes National Park after lunch. Enjoy the views of the countryside and hills along the way.

Spend a relaxing evening at your lodge in Volcanoes as you prepare for tomorrow’s gorilla trek. The safari can also start with a pick-up from a hotel in Kigali. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trekking & village visit

Wake early and drive to the park offices in Kinigi for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will join a group of eight visitors and be assigned a gorilla family to trek.

The gorillas move and rest in different places, so the trek can last from 2 to 6 hours before you find them. Spend one hour with the gorillas, then return to the park offices and drive back to the lodge for lunch and rest.

Later, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, now called the Gorilla Guardians Village, to learn about Rwanda’s culture and traditions. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking & departure

Golden monkeys are an endangered species found only in the Virunga Massif. Trekking them is a different experience.

You will have a briefing, then enter the bamboo forest to trek the golden monkeys and spend one hour with them. These monkeys are more active than gorillas.

Return to your lodge for lunch, check out, and drive back to Kigali for a drop-off at the airport for your flight home.
