3-Day Rwanda Birding Tour in Volcanoes National Park

This 3-day Volcanoes Birding Tour takes you to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, a home for mountain gorillas and many birds. On day one, your driver will pick you from Kigali and take you to Nyabarongo Swamp to start bird watching.

Detailed 3-Day Volcanoes Birding Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Musanze – Volcanoes National Park – Nyabarongo

Your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and drive you to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. First, visit Nyabarongo Swamp where your birding tour begins. Enjoy the wetland views as you look for birds.

Then drive to your lodge in Volcanoes to check in and have lunch. Later, you can join a guided nature walk or visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for a cultural tour of Rwanda. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Birding in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, your guide will take you to the park offices where you will meet expert bird guides and park rangers. Then drive to the trailhead and enter the forest for a full day of birding.

Look for more than 200 bird species in the forest, including Albertine Rift endemics and some migratory birds.

With your binoculars ready, watch for birds like the great blue turaco, Ruwenzori turaco, Ruwenzori batis, handsome francolin, Ruwenzori double-collared sunbird, archer’s ground robin, and more.

Return to the lodge at the end of the day.

Day 3: Birding at the twin lakes and departure to Kigali

After breakfast, your guide will drive you to the twin lakes for morning birding at Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Later, drive back to Kigali where your tour ends with a drop-off.
