4-Day Akagera Safari | Game Drives & Balloon Adventure

This 4-day Akagera Wildlife and Balloon Safari starts with airport pick-up and transfer to Kigali for your first night. The next day, enjoy a half-day city tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial and museums before traveling to Akagera National Park.

In the afternoon, take a short game drive and a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see crocodiles, hippos, animals, and many water birds. Spend day three on full game drives to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and more, with an optional nature walk.

On day four of this Rwanda safari, enjoy a hot air balloon flight over the park, followed by a game drive back to Kigali for your departure.

Detailed 4-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Airport pick-up – Kigali

When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, your safari driver will meet you and take you to a hotel in Kigali city. This is where you will spend your first day and night in Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills.

Day 2: Kigali city tour – Akagera National Park – Boat trip

After breakfast, you will go on a half-day city tour in Kigali. You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, art and craft centers, museums, and other places of interest. After the tour, drive to Akagera National Park.

Arriving in the afternoon, you will have a short wildlife viewing drive on your way to the safari lodge for lunch. Later, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Look out for crocodiles and hippos in the water, and animals at the lake shore grazing, drinking, or cooling off. You will also see many water birds.

Day 3: Akagera National Park – Game drives

Spend the full day on game drives in Akagera National Park. You may see elephants, buffaloes, zebras, leopards, lions, hyenas, giraffes, rhinos, antelopes, and many birds.

Later in the day, you can join a guided nature walk. Overnight at the safari lodge.

Day 4: Hot air balloon safari and departure

Start the day with a one-hour hot air balloon flight over Akagera National Park. See the park, its habitats, landscapes, and animals from a new view. After landing, enjoy a bush breakfast.

Return to your lodge to check out and leave the park. On the way back to Kigali, enjoy a game drive before your guide drops you at the airport for your flight home or to your next destination.
