5-Day Rwanda Tour | Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trekking Trip

This 5-day Rwanda Gorillas & Chimpanzee Safari starts with a city tour in Kigali, visiting the Inema Art Center, Kigali Genocide Memorial, and museums.

After lunch, you travel to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking. Join a group to track a gorilla family with a park ranger’s guidance.

The trek lasts 2 to 7 hours. Next, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village before driving to Nyungwe Forest National Park. There, enjoy a canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking.

Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Chimp Trekking Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

Your safari begins with a city tour of Kigali. You will visit places such as the Inema Art Center, Kigali Genocide Memorial, and museums. After lunch, start your journey to Volcanoes National Park.

Enjoy the views of the countryside and hills along the way. Overnight at your lodge in Volcanoes.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today you will meet the endangered mountain gorillas during your gorilla trek. You will join a group of eight people and be assigned a gorilla family to track. The day begins with a briefing at the park offices, then a park ranger will lead you into the forest.

Stay alert and enjoy the experience. The trek can take from 2 to 7 hours or more. Afterward, return to the lodge for a meal. If time allows, you may choose to do another activity like a nature walk, bird watching, or visit the twin lakes.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’iwacu Village) to learn about Rwandan culture and traditions.

Then drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to many primates. Arrive in the afternoon, check in, have lunch, and go for a canopy walk above the trees and forest animals. This canopy walk is one of the best and unique in East Africa. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Today you will meet the playful chimpanzees during your trek. The day starts with a briefing, then you enter the forest to track the chimpanzees.

Nyungwe Forest has 12 primate species, many birds, and various plants and trees. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. The afternoon is free for you to choose activities such as a guided nature walk, bird watching, or a community visit. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Departure from Kigali

This is the last day of your 5-day Rwanda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari. Your guide will drive you back to Kigali and drop you off at the airport for your flight.
