Ruhwa One-Stop Border Post – Facilitating Rwanda-Burundi Trade

The exact number of people who use the Ruhwa border post is not known, but it is clear that this crossing point helps trade between Rwanda and Burundi. It was built in 2014, located fully on the Burundi side, and was funded by the African Development Bank.

The construction of the Ruhwa border post started in 2009. The project was launched by the Minister of Public Works and Equipment from Burundi. During the launch, he thanked Dr. Alexis Nzahabwanimana, the Rwandan Minister of State in charge of transport, for helping to make the project a success.

People who live near the border are given a special border pass. This allows them to cross daily under agreements made between Rwanda and Burundi.
