Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park
Pick up from your hotel by your safari guide after breakfast and embark on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park in the East of Rwanda. The drive takes about 2 to 3 hours. On reaching the park, you will do a short game drive as you drive to your safari lodge. Check in and have a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, you will drive to Lake Ihema for a boat ride. Look out for hippos and crocodiles in the water and on the shores. Other animals you may spot grazing or cooling their bodies include elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks.
Spot different water bird species as you sail along, like kingfishers, African fish eagle, black crake, goliath heron, cormorants, egrets, and African jacana, among others. An optional night game drive is available on this day. Overnight at your safari lodge.
Day 2: Game Drive in Akagera National Park and Departure
After an early morning breakfast, check out of the lodge with a packed lunch. Embark on a half-day game drive around Akagera National Park. Explore the Northern part of the park, expecting to see animals like giraffes, zebras, lions, elephants, impalas, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, warthogs, oribis, and waterbucks, among others.
Later in the afternoon, you will start your journey back to Kigali for a drop-off at your hotel or at the airport to catch your flight.
