Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Musanze – Volcanoes National Park – Nyabarongo
The tour driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and drive you to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. You will first drive to Nyabarongo Swamp where your birding tour will start. Enjoy the views of the wetland as you search for beautiful birds.
Then drive to your lodge in Volcanoes for check-in and lunch. Later in the day, you can choose a guided nature walk or visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for a Rwanda cultural tour experience. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Birding in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, your tour driver guide will drive you to the park head offices where you will meet the expert bird guides and park rangers. You will then drive to the trailhead and enter the forest for a full-day birding experience in Volcanoes National Park, looking out for the over 200 species of birds living in the forest, including Albertine Rift endemics and some migratory species.
With your binoculars ready, look out for the great blue turaco, Ruwenzori turaco, Ruwenzori batis, handsome francolin, Ruwenzori double-collared sunbird, archer’s ground robin, and more. At the end of the day, return to your lodge.
Day 3: Birding at the twin lakes and departure to Kigali
After your morning breakfast, your tour driver guide will drive you to visit the twin lakes for a morning birding experience at Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Later, drive back to Kigali for a drop-off, marking the end of your birding tour in Volcanoes National Park.
