2-Day Akagera Safari | Big Five & Boat Trip in Rwanda

This 2-day Akagera Safari explores Rwanda’s only Savannah park, Akagera National Park. On day one, your guide picks you up from Kigali and drives you to Akagera.

Enjoy a short game drive and lunch before a boat ride on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and many water birds.

An optional night game drive is available. On day two, after breakfast, take a half-day game drive in the northern park to spot giraffes, lions, zebras, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and more.

Later, travel back to Kigali for drop-off at your hotel or airport to mark the end of your Rwanda safari.

Detailed 2-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, your Rwanda safari guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you on a scenic 2 to 3-hour drive to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. Upon arrival, enjoy a short game drive as you head to your safari lodge. Check in and have lunch.

In the afternoon, take a boat ride on Lake Ihema. Look for hippos and crocodiles in the water and on the shore. You may also see elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks grazing or cooling off.

Spot many water birds like kingfishers, African fish eagles, black crakes, goliath herons, cormorants, egrets, and African jacanas as you sail along. An optional night game drive is available this evening. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: Game drive in Akagera National Park & departure

After an early breakfast, check out of the lodge with a packed lunch. Go on a half-day game drive in the northern part of the park. Look for giraffes, zebras, lions, elephants, impalas, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, warthogs, oribis, and waterbucks.

In the afternoon, start your journey back to Kigali. You will be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport for your flight.
