3-Day Nyungwe Bird Watching Tour in Rwanda
This 3-day Nyungwe Birding Tour explores Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Rwanda’s best birding spots with over 300 bird species, including Albertine Rift endemics and migratory birds.
On day one, you travel from Kigali to Nyungwe with stops like Nyanza Palace, arriving for an afternoon birding session. Day two is a full day of bird watching in the dense forest, spotting birds such as the purple-breasted sunbird, great blue turaco, and Albertine owlet.
On day three, you can choose a canopy walk or chimpanzee trek before returning to Kigali for airport drop-off, ending your Rwanda birding tour.

Day 1: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park – Birding
You will be picked up early from your hotel in Kigali and driven to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The drive takes about 6 to 7 hours with stops at places like Nyanza Palace.
Arrive at the park in the afternoon, have lunch, then go into the forest for an afternoon birding session. You may see birds such as handsome francolin, Rwenzori batis, stripe-breasted tit, and Kungwe apalis. Return to the lodge for the night.
Day 2: Birding in Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, explore the green, dense Nyungwe Forest for a full day of bird watching. Enjoy the fresh, cool air as you look for birds like purple-breasted sunbird, archer’s robin-chat, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, Rwenzori hill babbler, great blue turaco, red-throated alethe, regal sunbird, barred long-tailed cuckoo, thick-billed seedeater, olive woodpecker, cinnamon bracken warbler, Shelley’s crimsonwing, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, Albertine owlet, mountain sooty boubou, and many more. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali
On your last day, you can choose to do a canopy walk or an early morning chimpanzee trek. Afterward, drive back to Kigali. Your tour ends with a drop-off at the airport.
