Detailed 15-Day East Africa Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Pick-up from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda

When you arrive in Uganda, your safari guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in either Kampala or Entebbe for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up and drive you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Enjoy the sights along the way with stops for lunch and a visit to the Equator. In the evening, check in to your lodge and rest.

Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Gorilla Trekking

Today you will go gorilla trekking in Bwindi. After breakfast, your guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a short briefing. A ranger will then lead you into the forest to look for mountain gorillas.

The trek may take 2 to 6 hours or longer, depending on where the gorillas were last seen. Once you find them, you will spend one hour observing them. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. Later, visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

After breakfast and check-out, drive across the border into Rwanda and head to Volcanoes National Park. Arrive in the afternoon, check in to your lodge, have lunch, and relax for the rest of the day.

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking

Enjoy another gorilla trekking experience, this time in Rwanda. After a short briefing at the park office, you will be placed in a group of 8 visitors and assigned a gorilla family to track.

Enjoy the walk through the forest, and after the trek, return to the park office. Your guide will take you back to the lodge for lunch. Later, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for a cultural visit.

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali and City Tour

Drive to Kigali and enjoy a short city tour. Places you may visit include the Kandt Museum, Kigali Genocide Memorial, Inema Art Center, local markets, and craft centers. You can buy souvenirs and gifts. Spend the night in Kigali.

Day 7: Transfer to Arusha, Tanzania (Flight)

After breakfast, your guide will take you to Kigali Airport for your flight to Arusha, Tanzania. When you arrive, your Tanzanian guide will meet you and take you to your hotel for the night.

Day 8-9: Serengeti National Park – Game Drives

Spend two days exploring Serengeti National Park. You will enjoy game drives in different parts of the park to see as many animals as possible. Serengeti is known for the wildebeest migration and is home to many animals and birds.

You might see the Big Five animals during your stay. Optional activities include hot air balloon rides, bird-watching, walking safaris, and visiting a Maasai village.

Day 10-11: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Crater Game Drive

Visit the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera. The crater is home to over 25,000 animals and many bird species. Enjoy game viewing, birding, and guided walks during your two days in this area.

Day 12: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Leave Serengeti and drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve in southern Kenya, which shares a border with Serengeti.

Day 13-14: Masai Mara National Reserve – Game Drives

Explore Maasai Mara for two days with morning and afternoon game drives. This reserve is famous for its open plains and wildlife. It is part of the same ecosystem as Serengeti and also sees the great animal migration.

You can expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hyenas, wildebeests, gazelles, leopards, jackals, and more. Visit the Mara River to see more animals. Optional activities include visiting a Maasai village, a hot air balloon ride, or a walking safari.

Day 15: End of Safari

This is the last day of your safari. You will be dropped off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi for your flight back home.
